CS2 Cases & Containers
Everything you need to know about opening cases, capsules, terminals and the Armory system in Counter-Strike 2.
What are containers in CS2?
Containers in CS2 are items that give you skins, stickers, patches and other cosmetics when opened. Most require a key to open, but some – like terminals – are completely free. Each container type holds a different set of items with varying rarity tiers. In this guide, we cover every container type, their contents, drop rates and how to get them. Whether you are a new player or a seasoned veteran, you will find everything in one place.
Weapon Cases
Weapon cases are the most iconic container type in CS2 – you need a key ($2.49) to open each one. Every case contains 17 skins ranging from Mil-Spec (blue) to Covert (red), plus a chance at rare knives and gloves in the gold tier. Drop rates are approximately 79.92% Mil-Spec, 15.98% Restricted, 3.2% Classified, 0.64% Covert, and just 0.26% Gold (knife or gloves). Cases drop as random end-of-match rewards on Valve servers. Some of the most popular ones include Kilowatt, Revolution, Gallery, Dreams & Nightmares and the Fever Case.

Sticker Capsules
Sticker capsules contain stickers in various finishes – Paper, Holo, Glitter, Foil and Gold. Tournament capsules from Majors (Austin 2025, Shanghai 2024) feature team and player stickers that are popular among collectors and investors. Community sticker capsules bring community-designed stickers and key prices vary by capsule type. Rarer finishes like Holo and Gold can be worth hundreds on the Steam Market.

Souvenir Packages
Souvenir packages drop during Major tournaments when you watch matches through CS2 or on Twitch. They contain souvenir skins with gold tournament stickers – including stickers of the players who performed in that particular match. In recent Majors, they are called "Souvenir Highlight Packages" and their contents depend on the specific match played. Souvenir skins are unique because they cannot be obtained any other way – only from these packages. Some rare souvenir skins are among the most expensive items in all of CS2.

Graffiti Boxes
Graffiti boxes contain colored graffiti sprays that let you express yourself right on the map – each spray has 50 uses. Monochrome graffiti drops for free as post-match rewards, but colored versions only come from boxes. Available options include the Community Graffiti Box and the original CS:GO Graffiti Box. Graffiti might not be the rarest items out there, but they are popular for trolling and decorating clutch spots.

Music Kit Boxes
Music Kit boxes contain music kits that completely replace your in-game music – from the main menu to the MVP anthem, round win and round loss themes. There are three main boxes: Masterminds, Tacticians and Radicals, each with a different set of kits from well-known producers. Music kits can also come in StatTrak versions that track your MVP stars. If you are tired of the default soundtrack, music kits are a great way to personalize your experience.

Pins Capsules
Pin capsules contain collectible pins that are displayed on your profile and in the scoreboard. There are Series 1, 2 and 3, with older series being rarer and more expensive. Each capsule holds a set of pins with different rarity tiers – from common to extremely rare. Pins are popular among collectors because they are visible in-game and represent your dedication to the CS community.

Terminals
Terminals are a completely new container type in CS2, introduced in 2024 – 2025. Unlike cases, terminals are free to open – no key needed. When you open one, you get 5 offers to choose from and then the terminal disappears. Genesis Terminal contains 17 community skins, while Dead Hand Terminal features 17 skins and 22 gloves – including the first gold tier items in terminals. Terminals are a revolution in the container system and Valve keeps expanding them.
Armory System
The Armory system is CS2's progression-based reward system. To get started, you need an Armory Pass ($15.99) and an active Prime membership. Playing on Valve servers earns you XP, and every 300 XP gives you 1 star (credit). You spend stars on collections (4 stars) or cases (2 stars) – rewards include skins, keychains and cases. You can own up to 5 passes at once, so there is plenty of room to grind. The Armory only works on Valve servers.
